Acell

What is ACell?

ACell is an acellular scaffold that promotes wound healing. ACell is used to provide a temporary matrix of proteins, collagens and growth factors that support blood vessel formation, and stem cell regeneration for hair growth. Over time, the scaffold is gradually incorporated into the patient’s own tissues. ACell facilitates constructive remodeling of scalp tissue and hair follicles. The result is scalp renovation and new hair growth.

How is ACell used?

It may be combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to facilitate the body’s ability to repair and remodel tissue. PRP is concentration of platelet- derived growth factors crucial for hair follicle stem cell function. Depletion of platelet-derived growth factors causes progressive exhaustion of hair follicle stem cells which results in significant hair loss. PRP initiates replenishment and renewal of follicle stem cells to regenerate the hair follicles which results in new hair growth.

When ACell is combined with a patient’s PRP it accelerates the action of stem cells in the treated areas and regenerates hair. ACell plus PRP is a long-term nonsurgical hair regeneration procedure.

ACell can also be combined with micronized fat grafting to recruit stem cells from the fat to regenerate hair follicles and drive hair growth. At Powell Hair Restoration, we tailor your treatment to your specific situation, and combine various modalities to restore your hair.

What is ACell used for?

When applied to the scalp with miniaturized hair follicles the solution activates follicle stem cells to produce new hair and reverses miniaturization of the follicles.

It is used to treat male pattern hair loss, female pattern hair loss, Alopecia Areata, and other hair loss caused by metabolic issues like iron deficiency, thyroid disease, and medication side effects.

ACell is used in hair transplantation to support graft survival, hair quality and healing. It is also used to improve the appearance of donor scars due to previous strip surgeries.

It can be applied to the entire scalp or specific areas where hair is thinning or balding.

The ACell procedure

A small amount of blood will be drawn and processed to produce PRP. Local anesthetic will be used to numb the areas to be treated The PRP is combined with ACell and the solution is injected with a fine gauge needle.

After the procedure, there may be some discomfort, and mild swelling that should resolve within a day or two. New hair growth and improved thickness and density may be noticeable as soon as two months but optimal results will require 4-8 months. A single treatment is generally all that is required, however, additional treatments may be advised to improve outcome.
